Evaluating E-commerce Efficiency in Provinces of Iran with Data Envelopment Analysis Approach

Authors

Abstract:

This paper presents a model for assessing the efficiency of e-commerce in the provinces of IRAN with data envelopment analysis (DEA). For this purpose, first, we assess the factors that affect to growth and use of e-commerce in Iran, then to show the efficiency of IRAN's provinces on e-commerce, data analysis model applied. Results show the average efficiency in IRAN in year 2016 compared to year 2013 increased. The numbers of efficiency in years 2014, 2015 and 2016 have a normal distribution, and only in 2013 we have outliers. Also MALMQUIST efficiency coefficient calculation results show we have progress in years 2015 and 2014 compared to 2014 and 2013.The most progress is in year 2014 that related to Isfahan province and in year 2015 related to Charmahalobakhtyari province. Ultimately the efficiency coefficient of MALMQUIST results 8 provinces in year 2016 have progress compared to year 2015 and 22 provinces during the same time period have regressed. The greatest progress in year 2016 is relating to Khuzestan provinces and most regression is relating to North Khorasan Province.

Robust efficiency in data envelopment analysis with VRS technology

One of the fundamental problems in the classic DEA is lack of ability to distinguish unit's performance scores that is considered as a disadvantage. Recently, Parkan et al. [9] tried to address this problem.   They proposed to assess each unit both optimistic and pessimistic views are taken into account. In contrast to traditional evaluation, one index is considered for each unit based on the l...

Evaluating eco-efficiency with data envelopment analysis: an analytical reexamination

This paper reexamines the unintended consequences of the two widely cited models for measuring environmental efficiency—the hyperbolic efficiency model (HEM) and directional distance function (DDF). I prove the existence of three main problems: (1) these two models are not monotonic in undesirable outputs (i.e., a firm’s efficiency may increase when polluting more, and vice versa), (2) strongly...

Cost Efficiency Measures In Data Envelopment Analysis With Nonhomogeneous DMUs

In the conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA), it is assumed that all decision making units (DMUs) using the same input and output measures, means that DMUs are homogeneous. In some settings, however, this usual assumption of DEA might be violated. A related problem is the problem of textit{missing} textit{data} where a DMU produces a certain output or consumes a certain input but the val...

Energy Efficiency in Iran Provinces: DEA Approach

The main aim of this paper is to evaluate the energy efficiency in 30 provinces of Iran by applying the different methods of DEA and Anderson and Peterson during the period of 2009-2013. Also, since classical analysis models do not differentiate efficient cases, the AP method (Anderson-Peterson) was used to rank efficient units for evaluating efficiency correctly. So that combination of input v...

Integration of E-Commerce by SMEs in the Manufacturing Sector: A Data Envelopment Analysis Approach

SMEs (smallto medium-sized enterprises) in the manufacturing industry are impacted by enormous changes in their business processes. E-commerce-related developments have reduced the importance of physical branches and moved it toward more sophisticated and e-commerceenabled supply chains for products and services. This article analyzes the differences among SMEs in the manufacturing sector in fo...
